Auction Inspector - Ebay Software
All business advice books will tell you that finding and concentrating on a niche is the key to a successful business venture.
This is no different for eBay sellers – and the task often seems even more overwhelming in such an enormous marketplace where competition is fierce. Another aspect of eBay that some sellers find difficult is the mere process of coming up with ideas.
Auction Inspector promises to help you find products to sell that have high demand and low competition. It does this by sorting through eBay’s Want It Now listings to discover hidden goldmines. If you haven’t heard of Want It Now before, this is eBay’s site where buyers can post Wanted listings for products they are looking for. As unsorted data, Want It Now isn’t much use to sellers – but this is where Auction Inspector comes in. Auction Inspector inspects Want it Now posts and tells you which products are wanted most often. Then it analyzes responses from sellers so you can immediately see areas where sellers are already swarming versus pure un-mined potential.
Auction Inspector then runs these numbers through a sophisticated algorithm to give you a potential for each product. High potential means products that have high demand and low supply, while low potential means the product isn’t in demand, or else is already fulfilled.
This sounds like an excellent concept and one I decided to test by asking the Auction Inspector to search the category of Health and Beauty. If you have a particular product in mind you would like to check, you can just enter a keyword. I, however, was vague on exactly what I wanted to sell apart from the general area.

Auction Inspector can take several minutes to sort through the listings and process the results – up to 10 minutes sometimes. However, this is a very small amount of time when you consider how long it would take to do this manually!
The results were interesting. In the one-word results it was obvious that products related to hair had enormous potential of 20.59. These results were slightly less thrilling when I drilled down to 5-word results and found the top result was Clearasil Face Hair Body wash with a potential of 2. However, it quickly became clear that Auction Inspector rarely enables you to find a single item with huge potential; as such opportunities are few and far between. Rather it allows you to see general areas of need – in this case hair products. Most eBay sellers need to sell a range of products anyway to create income. I checked up on this product further by going to eBay and viewing completed listings. No Clearasil Face Hair and Body wash had been listed and Clearasil products in general were sparse. Those that had been listed had a reasonable sell-through rate of 50%.
After doing a number of other searches I was convinced that Auction Inspector was a very useful and exciting tool. It is pleasantly surprising to see just how many hidden niches are still to be developed on eBay.
